Shiba Pillow, well Dog pillows

Hi all, Mika and Nami's mommy here. I was browsing Toxel.com today when I stumbled upon a site that makes pillows with dogs on them. Cartoon dogs, that is. These pictures were taken from the PillowPillowPillow site (I'll provide the link real soon.) and even though the description on their website is "akita," it's a shiba to me. Before I forget, here is a link to their site (pillows are under "See our products"): PillowPillowPillow. I know Mika and Nami have some husky friends out there, so here is their husky pillow: If I'm not mistaken, there is a spaniel pup too that likes to drop in now and then, so this is for you: Anyways, before I make this post really long with pictures of every dog pillow they have, go visit the site! You can purchase the pillows from their website or at one of the stores they have listed in "Where to buy."

Note: These pictures do not belong to me, they were taken from the PillowPillowPillow site.

Happy Birthday, Mika!

It's Mika's birthday today!!!!!!

Happy, happy, birthday. Today's your special day! You're one year older than you were yesterday! Hey!

Sorry, we didn't have a big party or anything for Mika. We did spend some nice quality time with him (and he was being a snuggle bunny. Yeah, odd for a shiba to be a snuggle bunny, right?).

Well, happy 6th birthday, Mika!

Something special might be done on the weekend. (Shhh.. don't tell him)

(Sorry, no pictures, we can't find the camera charger.)

Escondido Street Faire Update

Here are the things we picked up at the street faire about a month ago. Mommy finally took pictures of the stuff.
-Mika and Nami

For those of you who want one of these, contact Jim swenson at noahsanimals@sbcglobal.net. The site doesn't have much stuff in it, actually, no shiba stuff at all, but there are other ways to contact him on the site: www.noahsanimals.com.

Surprise!

Mommy and daddy didn't tell us that we were going to have a friend over today! We had a shiba visit us! It's the same shiba that came with [Mika] to UTC mall: HANA!
-Mika and Nami

I'm glad that daddy showered me off last night after I went for a swim in the pool. It was great to see Hana again! She's so calm and mellow!
-Mika

Too calm and mellow. I tried to get her to play with me, but she wouldn't. =( It was great to see her again.
-Nami

Hana learned how to use the dog door today, all on her own! She watched Nami run in and out of the dog door a couple of times, then she explored it and hopped in. Looks like Hana's mom doesn't have to teach Hana how to use the dog door. =) It looks like Hana had a fun time today exploring the house. She didn't make it up the hill to explore, but she had fun exploring close to the house and inside of the house. Well, here is a picture of Hana right before they had to go: -Mika and Nami's mommy

All is Well!

Mommy's operation thing went well. She's in some pain, but not too much. We're being good so far.
-Mika and Nami

I know that mommy's not feeling well, so I'm being on my best behavior, unlike my *cough* little sis *cough*. (Whispers: I tried to visit mommy upstairs last night, but daddy told me "off" and I knew I had to get off the stairs as we're not allowed on or up the stairs. Most of the bottom floor of the house, and all of the backyard is ours, so I guess I can't complain not getting the upstairs of the house.)
-Mika

Hey, big bro, if mommy wasn't feeling all that well, she wouldn't be walking around so much and bending down to feed us and pet us and stuff like that!

Thunder and Lightning

Just wanted to post that we have no problems with thunder and lightning. We just curl up and nap through it. Hail on the other hand causes [Nami] to bark which causes [Mika] to join in and help her protect the house. We like to go out in the rain and play, thanks to the doggy door, we can run out and play in the rain, then come back when it stops raining and shake inside of the house. =D (M&N's mommy: I guess naming Nami after water helped in that she's not afraid of baths and rain. Nami's name means wave in Japanese. Mika, we've had no problems with water, he loves it. I think Nami is more of the alert dog, she'll bark when someone is at the door, or we're all in an area and the wind blows the door shut and not to mention the hail.)
P.S. The pictures from today's post were not taken by any of us. It was a Google image search. We didn't see the full lighting streak, just a flash of light, and the hail melted as it touched the ground. You could see the little hail drops for a couple of seconds, then it was gone.

Canidae

Hello, all, it's M&N's mommy again posting.

I've recently been notified by another shiba owner that there have been some complaints about Canidae dog food. I have had no trouble feeding M&N Canidae beef and ocean fish. Their stool is firm, they have no diarrhea, and no vomiting. Mika's fur is softer than when he was on Beneful and Royal Canin. He actually finishes all of his food now and looks forward to eating breakfast and dinner.

I can't say much about Nami, we just recently finished switching over from her Eukanuba to Canidae B&OF. I think that was what she was on before. We got a gallon size zip top bag with enough food to switch her over to our food and was told it was Eukanuba food. So far she's doing well on the food and she's eating. Her stool looks better than when she was on Eukanuba.

Anyways, we haven't had trouble with Canidae yet, so far so good.

If anything happens, we'll post it here and the next food I have lined up for them to try is Innova Red Meat Large bites. I want to wait until Nami is at least 1 year old before switching them to Evo red meat large bites. If we do end up switching them if problems with Canidae arises.

Mika will swallow the food without much chewing if the bites are too small. I found that out when we had him on Royal Canin small breed adult kibble. Also, red meat because Mika hates bird products. He's not allergic to birds, at least not that we think. When he was eating Beneful, he picked out all of the red meat kibble and left the rest. When he was on Royal Canin, he would go days without eating. He would eat the dehydrated chicken treats (similar to the treat below), but not chicken biscuits. He doesn't get the itchies or the runs from chicken, for some reason he just doesn't like eating them. Maybe he knows something that we don't.

Nami, on the other hand, loves chicken. She loves chicken treats and loves anyone who gives her chicken treats.

Note: Pictures from today's post are not taken by us. They were found on the dog food's website, a pet store website, or a Google image search.

Nami's Adventure with the Dog Door

Hello, I'm M&N's mommy.

We recently installed a doggy door for the troublemakers to have easy access to their bathroom (our back yard). I had already taught Mika how to use the door when I took him on the 1 week vacation earlier this year. I had trouble with little Nami-chan though. I couldn't figure out if it was the noise of the magnet catching the metal or the flap coming down that scared her. (I brought her to a local pet store to let her explore after her check up with the vet, and on the way out, she thought that the middle partition for the two french doors was a way out, so she walked right into it.) [Nami: MOOOOOOOOOOOOOM... why do you have to share that story?] Anywho, I'm not sure if that bonk on the head with the glass spooked her so she wouldn't go through the dog door with the flap down, or what.

We made her feel comfortable around the door, whenever she approached it to sniff it, we gave her a treat and a "good girl, Nami," then I open the flap and put a treat on the other side of the door (the side where she should walk to) and she hesitantly stuck her nose in, sniffed to make sure that it wasn't a trick, and quickly grabbed the treat and retreated. M&N's daddy and I did that drill for an hour total (there were times when she wasn't interested at all in it, so we took a short break) slowly moving the treat back further so she would have to go further through the door to get the treat, but she would not put her back feet through the door. We stopped there that night as she wasn't interested in the treats (or toys I tried to lure her to put her back feet in with) and the door anymore and called it a night. I planned to resume the exercises the next day, but when I woke up the next morning (Their daddy put them outside just incase Nami didn't know how to use the dog door) and started the washer, I heard the dog door close. I assumed that it was Mika, because he was going in and out of the door right after it was installed, but when I looked down, there Nami was sitting and looking up at me with the "whatcha doing?" face.

Oh, I forgot to mention that I walked the whole downstairs to make sure nothing of ours was destroyed by the ferocious Nami teeth (Did I mention she loves to chew on things?) and no canine was inside of the house.

Boy was I surprised when I saw Nami at my feet. I walked to the living room and Nami followed me and I saw that Mika was still outside and was looking in to see what we were doing. Then, I see Nami approach the dog door, paw at it, so the flap would open a little a couple of times (I think she's making sure that she won't bonk her head again.) then slowly and cautiously put her head through, then her two front paws, then slowly inch through until she was fully outside. YATTA!!! She did it! I was so proud of her when she went through.

I stayed with them for a while longer before heading to my office/work room to make sure it wasn't just a two time deal. It wasn't! Nami snuck back in right behind me as I was entering the kitchen sliding door (what a cheater), went to her stash of chews on her bed, took one, then tried to go out of the door. She got discouraged because the chew kept hitting the side of the door, so she went to the kitchen sliding door again where I used my body (mostly legs, they're too small for body blocking unless I'm sitting on the floor) to block her from the door. After a few tries of getting to the kitchen sliding door, she gave up and went back to her dog door. She whined a couple of times while sitting in front of the dog door, but then she got together enough courage to try again (without my help, I was a good 10 feet away watching what she would do) and this time, she did it! She made it out of the doggy door with her chew in mouth (then proceeded to play keep away with Mika, I think as her way of showing him that she managed to bring a chew outside through the dog door all on her own).

Now, what I wonder is, who taught Nami to put her back paws through the door. M&N's daddy and I know that we only got her part way through. The only other inhabitant of our property that could have taught her was Mika. I think with enough of him going in and out of the door, she got her courage up to try it. Either that, or the shiba talked to each other and Mika told her in shiba language how to go in and out of the door. (And now, I bet you, she thinks this is the best thing ever invented. No more waiting at the door for someone to open it.)

Note: The picture of the dog door is from the Petco site. Petco is where we bought the dog door. The dog door works, but install was a pain in the neck. If you're looking for a dog door and don't want a difficult install, don't buy the Petsafe one from Petco. Look for a different brand at a different pet store, or go to Home Depot. Home Depot has a different brand dog door, and it might be easier to install, I don't know though, I couldn't bring the box down to look at the other side of the box for more information.
